Policy Dialogue and Continuous
Support to Myanmar’s Education Reform
A policy dialogue meeting between
the Myanmar government and the European Union to discuss education
sector reform took place yesterday in Nay Pyi Taw with the support of the
MyGovernance Project. The meeting was chaired by Union Minister of Education
and the EU Ambassador to Myanmar and discussed in particular the current
situation regarding access to education for children in the country’s
ethnic and conflict affected areas. Following the policy dialogue meeting, the
EU disbursed €32 million (51 billion MMK) in support of education reform in
Myanmar. This is the second payment from a total of €221 million (MMK 382
billion) in support of the government’s ambitious efforts in improving the
quality of education and vocational training in the country. MyGovernance
has been a key instrument for the two partners in preparing and
operationalising many of the technical aspects of their large-scale
cooperation.
